SHAWNEE, Kan. — The Shawnee Police Department is investigating a case of vandalism at the city's Garrett Park, which occurred late Wednesday evening.

The damage is estimated to cost about $5,000.

"We don't plan for vandalism so this is coming out of our operations fund," said Joe Overstreet, the city's parks and facilities manager. "That $5,000 that we think is going to cost to fix this could be used for maintaining the park or new amenities."

According to Overstreet, large rocks were used to destroy a urinal and sink in the men's restroom. The rocks were also used to shatter six lights around the park.

Overstreet called the vandalism "disappointing."

The men's restroom will remain locked until the repairs are completed, which could take more than a week.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Shawnee Police Department at 913-631-2150.
