RAYTOWN, Mo. — Senior citizens in Raytown have a new option for health care — one that doesn't require traveling across the metro.

It's all thanks to Humana, Inc. and Walgreens, which teamed up to create Partners in Primary Care, a medical group practice designed for Medicare recipients.

Partners in Primary Care opened a new health center this month at the Walgreens on Gregory Boulevard in Raytown.

"A lot of seniors have trouble traveling distances, so we try to give them what they need close to home, in their neighborhood," said Dr. Austin Welch, the physician at the clinic.

The Partners in Primary Care opening came as a relief to Jack Cox, a patient awaiting surgery for a shoulder injury and looking for a primary care physician.

"I live about a half a mile from here, so this is going to be great," he said.

Partners in Primary Care opened another center this month inside a Walgreens on NE Antioch Road. There were already four standalone clinics that opened in fall 2017.

Kansas City is serving as a test market for in the initiative. There are also locations in San Antonio; Greenville, South Carolina; and Gastonia, North Carolina.
