After a devastating fire, the Westport Presbyterian Church is celebrating it’s grand reopening.

On December 30, 2011 a construction worker that helped with church renovations started the fire with a flame torch.

"It was a trauma, I mean it is defiantly one of the worst traumas of my life and I'm sure many of the people in this congregation it was terrible," said Pastor Scott Myers.

For the last five years the church set up shop at The Villa, which used to be an old funeral home.

Now they have a place of their own.

It has a modern look, but touches of the old church including historic stone walls, original stained glass, and reclaimed wood. Renovations cost more than $13 million.

“We lost a lot of things but they were just things, you know, no one was hurt we were very thankful for that and we knew that from this some positive is going to be happening and this is it," said parishioner Stanley Morgan.
