KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Law enforcement and Worlds of Fun said Monday the numbers of teens physically fighting wasn't as large as people initially thought. Regardless, they don't want a similar scene in the future.

On Saturday night there was mayhem at the amusement park after police say a fight broke out among a group of teens as a crowd watched.

"Well if hundreds of people were there involved in the fight, there would be far more citations perhaps arrests," Clay County Sheriff Captain Will Akin said.

The Clay County Sheriff's office said one person got in trouble for the brawl - a 17-year-old who received a ticket for disturbing the peace.

"Whether it’s a group of people or a hundred people we still have to come together and what everyone is doing is on the same page," Akin said.

Law enforcement and management from the amusement park are set to meet this week to go over Saturday's incident.

"Practices at Worlds of Fun are designed to keep everyone safe," Akin said. "We try to identify those groups who are going to cause problems and get to them before they actually happen."

Worlds of Fun communications manager Chris Foshee released a new statement Monday:

The altercation Saturday night at Worlds of Fun involved a small group of unsupervised youths. Reports that there were “hundreds of people involved” in the altercation are simply false and inaccurate. We are pleased with the swift response from our security team. The park has zero tolerance for fighting or harassing other guests; we will continue to maintain our strong relationship with local authorities and to regularly review security policies to preserve a safe and fun atmosphere for our guests.

The sentiment in World's of Fun's statement was echoed by the sheriff's office.

"Accountability starts with the person," Akin said. "When you have all these teenagers - whether they’re supervised or unsupervised - we have to make sure that they know how to act appropriately. It’s not just their safety that we’re concerned about, we’re concerned about everyone’s safety."

The meeting between the sheriff's office and Worlds of Fun is expected to happen in the next day or two.
