KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) has suspended spring sports and activities through March 22.

In a statement released Sunday night, KSHSAA said that the “prohibition” is consistent with Kansas State Department of Education and “governmental guidelines and may be extended.”

Athletes are not allowed to partake in any “outside team participation and practice during this period.” The suspension comes as schools and businesses in the area are issuing temporary closures or adjusting schedules due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Not only would such outside participation be contrary to handbook rule, it would be contrary to the very reason activities are cancelled during the time we week to mitigate potential transfer of the contagion.”
