Master Deputy Brandon Collins of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department was killed on September 11, 2016. He was 45 years old. According to officials, after Collins initiated a traffic stop on northbound Highway 69, he was struck by a motorist. Collins later died. He was with the department for more than 20 years. Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Detective Brad Lanscaster was shot and killed in the line of duty near the Kansas Speedway. On May 6, 2016, reports came in of a suspicious person near the Hollywood Casino. Officers responded to the scene. Lancaster assisted. The suspect opened fire striking the detective several times. He was transported to the hospital where he later died at age 39. Read more here:
Kansas City, Kansas Police Captian Robert "Dave" Melton was shot and killed after responding to a shots fired call on July 19, 2016. Melton served nearly 17 years with the KCK police department. He also served with the Wyandotte Couty Sheriff's Office and was in the Kansas National Guard. Melton was 46 years old. Read more here:
Craig Schultz, 36, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 29 while responding to another accident on May 9, 2001. Schultz was with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for about a decade. He was 36 years old when he died.
