The thing I love about Twitter - what we all love about Twitter - is that it documents life in real time, imperfections and all.
That was the case Tuesday morning when @beertheist decided to take public transit from downtown Kansas City to his new(ish) job in Overland Park. He learned as he went.
His adventure began with a road block. Literally, a big orange and white sign reading "Road Closed."
My adventure commuting to the burbs has a rough start. My @JoCoTheJO bus stop is on a closed street. Walking to next pic.twitter.com/PJ10hzbfSi

He'd have to walk to another bus stop. He'd downloaded an app called Transit App and it told him where to go and when. Except the app told him the bus picks up every half hour. But it was really every hour. So he waited.
Still no bus. Giving it 10 minutes. pic.twitter.com/ZPCd2pyLZv

Then...
It's here! pic.twitter.com/iTnPR5euTU

(I feel his excitement. Don't you?)
A minute later, he was on the bus and on his way.
Boarded at 7:29. Very plush and padded seats. It is a JoCo bus, after all pic.twitter.com/CNEwTEJcvr

Now there was time to ponder alternatives. Perhaps a streetcar ride will be in his future.
There's a stop at Union Station. Could take streetcar here and have coffee and breakfast before heading off to JoCo pic.twitter.com/DwszLIKm7f

He was impressed with the travel time.
Have exited on to Metcalf. 21 minutes from 10th and Main. Not bad at all. Onward to 110th! pic.twitter.com/F4Cy4T4646

The bus stop sign was informative.
Made it! Took 40 minutes not including walk time pic.twitter.com/KsA2HtCGhc

He started walking and searched for a crosswalk. He tweeted about the one at Metcalf and College being hard to see. And then this...
This was the most frustrating part. Isn't your motto "better by design", @opcares? Cuz this is awful design pic.twitter.com/5kJw1BuMSQ

In a direct message conversation with Tim (@beertheist) he writes:
"As far as the commute, I'd add that it is only $1.50 each way. They had free Wi-Fi. And not once did I have to cuss at someone."
Noted @beertheist. And thanks for being a pioneer into the JoCo frontier.
