The Blue Valley School District is starting a Chinese immersion program at a new elementary school.

Construction of the Wolf Springs Elementary School is nearly done and this fall it will open to students for the first time.

Officials say 60 students will have a chance to try a brand new program in a brand new school, Chinese immersion. It's the first of its kind for the district.

"There will be two teachers, one who will teach all subjects in English and one who will teach the same in Chinese," said Dr. Tonya Merrigan, who helped design the program for the Blue Valley School District.

The school district researched several other immersion programs in other states to come up with its program.

Chinese is one of the most valuable languages to speak for business and trade.

Blue Valley wants to give their students the tools to be successful in a global community.
