A Johnson County hotel was forced to evacuate late Sunday night due to a gas leak.

Around 10 p.m., a vehicle struck a gas meter outside the Extended Stay Hotel on Lackman Road near I-435 in Lenexa.

More than two dozen guests were evacuated after the gas leak for about an hour and a half. They were allowed back into the hotel around 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Lenexa police have confirmed the man they took in for hitting the gas line was agitated. They believe he likely has a medical or drug problem. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

"Not soon after that, he walked to a vehicle. I'm not sure if it was his vehicle, but he screamed, 'I'm going to kill everybody in this hotel,'" said Christopher Miller, witness at the hotel. "He screamed obscenities at me and my mother as we were walking in and my mother thought he had a Bluetooth headset in his ear, but turns out the gentleman was talking to himself."

Police are still investigating the leak.
