Spangler's in Prairie Village is now closing its doors for good after more than six decades of business.

The gift and decor store was one of the longest running businesses in the Village Shops at 71st and Mission. Spangler's was open for a total of 62 years.

Owner Bill Spangler calls the decision to close “bittersweet.”

He and his one employee, Nancy, of 40 years, are familiar faces to their customers.

Spangler said he’d like to thank his shoppers for 62 years of business.

“What would I like to say to them? Thanks. Thanks. Thanks a million,” he said.

Sprangler's is only the latest staple of Prarie Village to close its doors. Tiffany Town closed it's doors February 28. It'd been a staple for more than 50 years, opening up at 1964.

Bruce Smith Drugs also shut down last month, because it couldn't reach a lease agreement. It had been there 62 years.

The Village Shops' website says Spangler's was the perfect spot to pick out a baby shower gift or present for a wedding. It also features Vera Bradley handbags and jewelry.
