One man is in custody after a standoff in Lansing, Kansas.
Lansing Police Chief Steve Layman said the incident started around 3:30 p.m. Friday when officers were sent to a possible burglary at a home near Lansing Elementary School.
The suspect ran from the house, and officers followed him. An off-duty officer saw the chase and joined in.
Layman said the suspect pointed a gun at the off-duty officer, not realizing the man was an officer. The suspect then ran into a detached garage.
The Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team and a sheriff’s department negotiator were called to the scene.
The negotiator convinced the suspect to surrender. There were no injuries and no shots were fired.
The standoff ended just before 7 p.m. Friday.
