The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is investigating after a series of auto burglaries in Wyandotte County.

Suspects have targeted vehicles that contain electronics, cell phones, backpacks and other items of value near various shopping districts in the area.

KCK police said criminals are aware holiday shoppers are storing merchandise and other valuables in their car and should be mindful this attracts criminal activity.

To avoid having things stolen from your vehicle, officers say you should:

  • Park in well-lit areas when possible.
  • Make sure the inside of the vehicle is clear of any property that could be seen as valuable.
  • Lock your car doors and ensure vehicle alarms are activated.
  • Store any shopping bags in your trunk and out of sight.

If you have something stolen, call police at (913) 573-6115 to the scene so an officer can inspect your vehicle.
