A Kearney police sergeant and officer went below the streets to help a baby fox late Wednesday night.
The Kearney Police Department posted on its Facebook page that Officer JD Garton and Sgt. Joe Kantola responded to a call where a citizen heard noises coming from the storm drains in front of their house.
Officers tracked the noise and found a baby fox in the storm drain.
The department said Sgt. Kantola entered the storm drain, but when the fox went further in Officer Garton entered at a different location to stop the fox.
Kearney police said the two navigated more than 150 feet of the drainage system and were able to safely rescue the fox.
Police said the fox will be taken to an animal rescue where it will be nursed to health and later released.
