Two men are charged with first-degree arson after being accused of setting a man and house on fire earlier this month in Sedalia, Missouri.

One of the men, Aran Cantrell, admitted to dousing the victim, Matthew C. Eldenburg, with gasoline while he was unconscious on the couch. According to the Sedalia Police Department, Cantrell said that a second man, Cody A. Harvey, was the individual who tried to light Eldenburg on fire, but then lit the whole house on fire after Cantrell poured the gasoline throughout the house.

Eldenburg later died from his injuries.

After talking to witnesses, police obtained Facebook messages between Harvey and Eldenburg where Harvey says, “U better watch ur back is all I’m saying youngster” the day of the fire. Harvey maintains that he was not involved in the fire.

The fire happened on June 23 at 1903 S. Grand at 1:24 p.m.
