The new Missouri budget means 8,000 Missourians will lose in home care.
Some metro nursing homes said the Medicaid cuts could also mean job cuts.
"The majority of our residents, that is how we get funded for their care. It is through the Medicaid program," said Kelly Hilmes with Monterey Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Medicaid funding is something her business and other metro nursing homes rely on.
Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens’s budget cuts some of that money.
"To have that news was very impactful to us," said Hilmes.
Greitens’s budget reduces the reimbursement rate for Medicaid providers by $12 million.
This has some nursing homes talking about possible job cuts.
"We are still going to provide the same high-quality care to our patients," Hilmes said. "We just have to get creative on how we will continue to provide the high-quality care."
Musudeen Harrell owns two in home care companies.
"It affects the clients very much so, but the aides are the ones who depend on this income," said Harrell.
She said they are already operating on low state funds.
Instead of trying to give her employees a raise, she's scrambling to keep them all employed.
"We need these employees to service the clients we already have,” Harrell said. “If these employees fall off the face of the earth, we still need people to help this client that we already have in place."
The Missouri Health Care Association said the timing of this is bad because Congress is currently considering legislation to cap the amount of Medicaid reimbursements each state receives.
