Royals Fever sweeping across Kansas City

Everywhere you go in the metro, you’re reminded that the World Series champions are straight out of Kansas City.

“The billboard creates a nice buzz in the city, and it's a lot of fun,” said Royal fan Michael Williamson, who brought his family to the Salvador Perez Splash Billboard in Westport for a family photo session before the billboard gets taken down.

Williamson says he’s seen hints of the Royals excitement across the country as well.

“When we traveled during spring break down to New Orleans, we saw a bunch of people wearing Kansas City gear. It makes you kind of feel a little camaraderie wherever you go,” said Williamson.

It’s everywhere you look. A banner at Union Station, a flag proudly waving over Boulevard Brewery, signs and flags in yards and Royals gear proudly worn by many.

“Everybody loves the Royals. The Royals are great,” said Mary Ann Dercher, who is helping her husband Robert celebrate his 80th birthday and their 59th year of marriage.

They too are “Forever Royal.”x

“We’ve got a great big sign at home,” said Mary Ann. “We bought our flag yesterday,” chimed Robert.

After years of watching the Royals, Robert thinks he’s honed his prediction abilities.

“Based on what has happened with the team, I think without a doubt we’ll make the playoffs,” said Robert. "I would venture to say that we will win Opening Day and the score will probably be 6-2, Royals.”

“That sounds like a good score to me,” replied Mary Ann.
