Due to forecast for northeast Missouri expecting severe weather for Tuesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service has postponed a statewide tornado drill.

This includes the entire state of Missouri and seven Kansas counties: Doniphan, Atchison, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Miami, and Linn.

The new date for the drill is set for March 17 at 1:30 p.m. and is expected to last 15 minutes.

Outside of the seven counties, the remainder of Kansas will have a tornado drill on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Once Missourians hear the broadcast drill message or outdoor warning sirens, they should seek shelter. The safest location is an interior room without windows in the lowest level of the building, according to NWS.

The 41st annual statewide tornado drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness week, which runs through March 18. Details are available online
