"Police are out here. We're working hard, but we also need the cooperation from our community. We can't do it by ourselves," said Captain Stacey Graves with the Kansas City Police Department.

"They need our help," Rosilyn Temple with KC Mothers in Charge said. "We've got to stand up. We've got to start speaking up."

Wednesday, 28-year-old Antonio Hughes was shot and killed at 57th and Bales. His aunt tells 41 Action News their family is hurting. Terri Hughes said, "I'm always thinking about him, but to have to sit there and type out who he was and basically it's like there's a period and there's nothing coming after it."

28-year-old Antonio Hughes was one of five people to be killed in Kansas City since Wednesday.

Now the Hughes family wants anyone who knows anything to come forward.

"The people that are not telling are just as responsible as far as I'm concerned, for his death and every other child or person that has died senselessly," said Hughes.

"We hope that our community comes together and does what we all can do and all work together to try to combat violent crime," Graves said.

Temple agreed, "It is our community, from south, west, east, north, it's all our community. We've got to come together. We've got to figure this out. We've got to figure this out."

Since May 24, there have been 10 violent crimes in Kansas City and five people have died.

Hughes said her family knows all too well that there's too much at stake because "Everybody is crushed and we're drained and we're tired. We don't want this to happen to anybody else."
