The site of a fatal weekend crash is getting covered by a growing memorial to remember two cousins who each had a bright future ahead.

Police responded to Ward Parkway and 86th Terrace Saturday around 7:10 p.m. on a double fatal collision.

"I was with my son that day we were just together he came home and he said mama 'we're going to go to the movies," Leisa Leggs, the mother of Quentin Leggs, one of the victims told 41 Action News.

But Quentin Leggs and his cousin Ra'Shad Leggs never made it. The young boys lives cut short in the Saturday night crash

"I woke up with my aunt--sister-in-law at my door telling me that my son was gone," Leisa Leggs said.

Police said Quentin was in the passenger seat when Ra'Shad collided with a red car.

Their mothers said the boys' Acura hit a curb, went airborne and slammed into a tree.

Paramedics pronounced Ra’Shad dead at the scene. Quentin later died at the hospital.

"My baby is gone, her baby is gone and the way we have to bury them--they have been disfigured --er son has been disfigured to the possibility where we might have to have a close casket," Leisa Leggs said.

Both teenagers were pursuing careers in the medical field.

Ra'shad, 17, aspired to be a pediatrician. While Quentin, 19, was set to begin working at Children's Mercy Hospital.

"He was so excited about starting this job on Monday and now my son couldn't make it," Leisa Leggs said.

As the family plans a funeral, they want to express their gratitude to the woman driving behind Ra'Shad and Quentin who didn't only witness the fatal crash but pulled over to be with the boys.

"We thank you, I would love to meet her and tell her in person thank you for being there, they didn't have to die alone," Adriana Seward, Ra'Shad's mother said.

They also want to the driver of the red car to know this:

"When they see this they're going to go through so much guilt as well and I'm praying for them and I need them to know whoever they are I'm praying for you as well," Leggs said.

The family is planning a vigil for the cousins Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the crash site.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
