A Kansas City woman says she’s been without heat for two days and that she’s holding her apartment complex responsible.

Judy Markley told 41 Action News her apartment inside building 23 of Harvard Court Apartments has been without heat since Thursday after a gas leak was discovered.

"What are we supposed to do? We have no heat. We can't cook. I don't own a microwave and we can't take a shower,” she said.

Markley said management told her the leak would be fixed and the gas would be turned back on by the end of the working day Friday. By Friday evening, when the gas was still cut off and the temperatures kept falling, she called management again.

"I called and I asked her, I said, 'when will the gas be turned back on?' And she said, 'I didn't know the gas was turned off to your building,’” said Markley.

After speaking with another manager, it wasn’t soon before residents in building 23 received typed notes slipped under their doors updating them on the situation. The first read, “sorry for the inconvenience,” while the second read that “after several attempts” to get a contractor to come fix the leak, “it may be Monday before repairs are completed.”

41 Action News called the number for management at Harvard Courts (the number listed on their public sign and the one given to residents for use). Instead of a ring, there was a message that simply said, “Thank you for calling. Goodbye.”

The company that runs the property is Orion Property Group based in Overland Park. 41 Action News reached out and left messages for them Saturday evening as well.

Missouri Gas Energy, who owns the gas lines, told 41 Action News they cannot turn the gas back on until the leak is fixed and that it’s the property owner’s responsibility to fix the leak.

"Nobody cares. It's the weekend. No one is gonna do anything. I'm just left here with no gas,” said Markley.

As of the Saturday evening forecast, local temperatures are expected to dip down into the teens Wednesday night with a slight possibility for snow.
