Police identify man suspected of shooting at Missouri Highway Patrol trooper

UPDATE 1/14/2016: Police say the man suspected of shooting at a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper is Troy Bateman, 35, of Marshall, Missouri. 

Bateman has an active parole violation for burglary and police believe he is armed with a handgun.

MHP advises extreme caution to anyone who makes contact with the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call MHP Troop A at 816-622-0800.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

The Missouri Highway Patrol is looking for a man who shot at a trooper Friday night.

According to the MHP, a trooper tried to pull over a driver for a traffic violation on Route EE at 160th Street in Saline County, Missouri.

The driver didn’t stop but then slid off the road, jumped from the car and ran from the trooper.

The MHP said the driver turned and shot at the trooper, and the trooper returned fire. No one was hit.

Troopers continued to search for the driver Friday night.
