When most people see the lights on Country Club Plaza, they don’t think about how much work goes into setting them up.

"It's a crazy busy time, but we love it," said Jan Cichello, the marketing director for the Plaza. "We love sharing the holiday with the Kansas City community."

The folks at Capital Electric spend months setting the lights up.

"They start hanging lights in August and they work through until Thanksgiving evening," Cichello said.

A total of 15 blocks are decorated with lights that line the buildings.

More than 280,000 lights are used to light up the Plaza.

Bulbs that go out are then used as decorations for gift wrapping.

Anyone who has their purchases gift wrapped on the Plaza, gets a retired light bulb to go on top.
