KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A second inmate from the Ellsworth Correctional Facility has died after contracting COVID-19.
The inmate, a 76-year-old man who died Monday, tested positive for the virus last month. He was transported Oct. 28 to the Lansing Correctional Facility’s COVID-19 management unit and taken to an area hospital the following day.
He also had underlying health conditions that "contributed to his condition," according to a news release.
The man was at Ellsworth Correctional Facility for a 176-month sentence after being convicted of two counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and aggravated endangerment of a child, the release stated.
Nine inmates in the Kansas Department of Corrections system have died since March.
