KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A firefighter in Independence has tested positive for COVID-19, the city announced Friday morning.
According to a release from City Manager Zach Walker, employees in the fire department that worked with the firefighter have been notified and the city is taking “additional sanitization” steps in shared spaces at the firefighter’s station.
Walker says employees who came into contact with the firefighter have been quarantined, as is the firefighter who tested positive.
“Today, our thoughts are with this employee, their family and our employees,” Walker said in a release. “We ask all of our citizens to wear a cloth face covering when in groups, regularly wash your hands, practice social distancing and stay home if you are ill to protect yourself and your family as we work to slow the spread of this disease.”
