KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The state of Kansas on Wednesday added South Dakota to its travel quarantine list based on the rate of new cases there.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said on Wednesday, South Dakota had a two-week case rate that was 3.2 times higher than the rate in Kansas.

South Dakota joins North Dakota, which has a two-week case rate 3.6 times higher than Kansas, on the quarantine list.

Kansas looks at the two-week case rate per 100,000 population to determine states and countries to place on the travel quarantine list. Belgium, Czechia and Andorra are also on the state’s list, along with out-of-state mass gatherings of more than 500 people where social distancing and mask wearing are not enforced.

The travel quarantine applies both to visitors and to Kansas residents who have traveled to those places. Anyone coming into Kansas from those areas should quarantine for 14 days.
