University of Kansas Health System daily update
The University of Kansas Health System is treating 71 patients with acute COVID-19 infections. Of those, 23 are in the ICU and 15 are on ventilators. Another 70 patients are in the recovery phase of the virus, totaling 141 patients being treated for COVID-19.
Doctors spent the time Friday answering questions about the virus and the vaccination process.
Restaurants ready for Kansas City Restaurant Week
Kansas City, Missouri, restaurants are looking forward to the 2021 Restaurant Week, hoping it brings a boost to business during the pandemic.

Kansas will be finished with Phase 1 of its COVID-19 vaccination plan by the end of the month. That phase included health care workers. The next phase will target older adults.
Lee's Summit nursing home residents, staff receive COVID-19 vaccine
Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center in Lee's Summit suffered a COVID-19 outbreak a few months ago in which 137 residents and staff tested positive for the virus. This week, residents and staff received the COVID-19 vaccine and there are currently no active cases of the virus.

On Thursday, more than 4,000 Americans died of COVID-19. It's the highest death toll in a single day since the start of the pandemic.
U.S. lost 140,000 jobs in December, the first monthly loss since spring
A report shows 140,000 jobs were eliminated in the U.S. in December, the first loss of jobs since April and a sign that the economy is not yet in a recovery phase.
