University of Kansas Health System daily briefing

University of Kansas Health System officials discussed the increase of COVID-19 cases across the U.S., the details surrounding vaccines and the timeline for the end of the pandemic on Monday's daily briefing.

Doctors predict the need for masks and extra safety measures could last through the fourth quarter of 2021. They said that the U.S. has seen a 30-35 percent increase in cases over the last two weeks.

Missouri, Kansas leaders detail COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans

With the increased hope that a vaccine will be available in the next few months for COVID-19, Missouri and Kansas leaders are working on plans for distribution. Since supplies would be limited at first, both states plan to focus initial doses on healthcare staff and first responders, and the essential workers with underlying conditions.

3 KC businesses closed due to mask, capacity violations

The Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department closed or suspended permits for three businesses in October. They included O'Dowds, Bobs N Motion and Juke House. The disciplinary action happened due to violations of mask or capacity orders.

Lansing USD 469 reports 5 COVID-19 cases

Five total students and staff in Lansing Unified School District 469 tested positive for the coronavirus in the past week. They were at Lansing High School and Lansing Elementary School.
