KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment confirmed Friday that a young child died in November from COVID-19.

The state health department said the 6-year-old who died is the youngest known death from the virus reported in the state.

The death certificate wasn’t finalized until this week.

No other information, including the child’s name, sex or where in the state the child resided was available due to patient privacy laws.

KDHE has reported 4,101 deaths, including an additional 213 deaths that were reported Friday, according to the state's tracker update.

After the update, the state now reports at least one person in every Kansas county has died from COVID-19.
