KANSAS CITY, Kan. — As students start the school year learning online, Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools are making sure no student goes hungry while the classrooms are closed.
Wednesday marked the first day KCKPS expanded its curbside meal pickup from six to 31 sites.
“Just because we are online doesn’t mean that the students don’t have the same needs as they did before,” said Michael Schartz, operations manager for Nutritional Services.
The free meals are available for pick up Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone from ages 1 to 18 or who has a disability is eligible for the free meals.
Registration is not needed unless meals are picked up without children present.
“It’s just a wonderful thing that someone came to our assistance and we appreciate it,” said Albert Ford, whose grandson is a student in the district. “God will prevail and we will get through this pandemic, everyone sticking together.”
