KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Oak Park Mall plans to reopen at 11 a.m. on Wednesday after being shuttered for more than seven weeks, making the announcement Monday on its website.

It will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the week and on Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Oak Park Mall also announced a handful of adjustments, including the continued cancellation of all mall events and a prohibition of gatherings larger than 10 people, as it opens its doors again to customers.

The food court seating area, children’s play area, soft seating areas, common-area gathering spaces will remain closed and water fountains will remain turned off.

Shoppers will be encouraged to follow social-distancing guidelines, per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.

Mall staff management and all vendors or contractors hired by Oak Park Mall’s management company will be required to wear masks in public areas or when other people are present.

Temperature checks also will be performed on mall staff, including security and janitorial staff, before each shift. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher will be sent home, along with anyone experiencing other COVID-19 symptoms.

The mall’s retailers are being encouraged to provide employees with masks and adopt a mandatory-mask policy when interacting with the public.

All mall retailers must abide by occupancy limits and other relevant mandates from the Kansas and Johnson County departments of health and environment related to reopening businesses.

Sanitizer stations have been placed across mall property for the public’s use and high-traffic areas will be cleaned and sanitized more frequently, focusing on common touch points.

The mall, aside from restaurants offering carryout options, closed March 24 after Johnson County health authorities announced an emergency stay-at-home order.

The Legends Kansas City — an outdoor outlet and retail space in Kansas City, Kansas — “will implement many new social distancing and community safety measures” as it reopens in Kansas City, Kansas, the mall’s management company announced Monday in conjunction with the reopening of businesses in Wyandotte County.

Nebraska Furniture Mart plans to delay its reopening until May 18 and will remain subject to Restart WyCo guidelines.

Other stores at the Legends are reopening this week.

There will be new signs to encourage social-distancing and retailers/restaurants will have new guidelines to follow to keep people at least six feet apart.

No-touch steps and pulls have been added to all bathroom doors, while upper levels of the parking garage have been closed.

Elevators, escalators and drinking fountains also have been closed, while free temperature checks, hand sanitizer, masks and wipes will be available for guests and employees.
