OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — An Overland Park, Kansas, woman is hoping to spread joy while cleaning off her shelves.
Ellen Portnoy told 41 Action News she refers to herself as a bookworm and has more than 5,000 books in her home.
After 35 years of living in the same home, Portnoy is now in the process of moving and needs to get rid of a few things.
“I believe in doing something good for people," Portnoy said. "I am of the philosophy that when you do something good for people, it makes you feel better, and so that’s always been part of my life."
Portnoy said she's read most of her books and is looking to give them away to people who could use them.
“I love reading and I love books obviously, and so when the library closed, I thought, 'oh, you know what, I was just going to give these books away or try to sell them in a garage sale; maybe people will need books to read because it’s so depressing right now and a good book helps you get away from where you are and into a different world," she said.
If you're interested in picking up a book from Portnoy, she asks that you send her an email to Ellen@AcceleratedSchoolsOP.org.
Portnoy has a variety of books available, including children's books, fiction, non-fiction and memoirs.
