KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a show of appreciation for the Kansas City area’s healthcare professions, the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and Sporting Kansas City are partnering to #LightItBlue.

The effort starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, when all all three teams will use the digital billboards at their stadiums to display the campaign’s logo.

The teams hope fans across Kansas City will use the hour to also light their homes blue and share their photos using the hashtags #LightItBlue and #MakeItBlue on social media.

Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and Sporting Kansas City Principal owner Cliff Illig released a joint statement.

“On behalf of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and Sporting KC, we invite you to help us light Kansas City blue this Thursday, April 9, in salute of the extraordinary, selfless and brave men and women who are fighting this pandemic 24 hours a day.”

The teams hope the effort creates “a global expression of support and gratitude to the healthcare and essential professionals who are saving lives around the clock, ‘toward creating a universal symbol of solidarity and hope.’”
