KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Those who are on Supplemental Security Income or are Department of Veterans Affairs beneficiaries need to act by May 5 to receive a full economic impact payment, according to the IRS, if they had not filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019.

The IRS said in a news release that the $1,200 payments will be “issued soon,” but to receive $500 per “eligible child,” the IRS must have dependent information. If the IRS does not have dependent information, the additional amounts will be “paid in association with a return filing for tax year 2020,” according to the release.

“They’ll get $1,200 automatically, but they need to act quickly and use the Non-Filers tool on IRS.gov to get the extra $500 per child added to their payment,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in the release.
