KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Urban League of Greater Kansas City is hosting a virtual job fair to help people find employment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first virtual job fair will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Employers participating in the event include Spectrum, Hy-Vee and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City.

The idea for the event started a month ago, according to Jauqua Preston Wilkins with the Urban League of Greater Kansas City.

“Unemployment is getting cut, so we want to make sure that we’re getting our clients ahead of the game,” Wilkins explained.

Wilkins said the goal of the virtual job fair is to make sure clients have current and necessary skills to land a job right now.

“There are jobs that are closing and not coming back to our community. So we really need to get everybody in line to get a job as soon as possible. Because the longer you wait, the longer, you know, you might be left out," Wilkins said.

People looking for work can register for the virtual job fair on the Urban League website. Job seekers can upload a resume online.

Wilkins said help with resumes and interview skills can also be provided.

People without a computer can call the Urban League of Greater Kansas City for help at 816-471-0550.

Virtual job fairs will be held each month.
