KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 28 year-old Kansas City, Missouri man is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19 last month.

Lawrence Smith spent several weeks in quarantine after testing testing positive on March 17.

“I felt like I was an outsider," he said. "I couldn’t be close to anyone. I couldn’t talk to anyone in person. It just felt like I was really isolated from the world. It really sucked."

Smith received good news Thursday when his fourth COVID-19 test came back negative from the University of Kansas Hospital. The first three tests were positive.

“It felt good," Smith said. "It felt good to be out of the house. It feels good. It was a sigh of relief more than anything."

To be deemed healthy, Smith has to test negative twice within 24 hours.

After receiving the good news, Smith said he'd have to go and get his second test done the same day.

Meanwhile, Smith said he's busy cleaning his entire apartment.

“I've got to throw everything out of my house — clean the couches, clean the sheets, take everything down," Smith said. "So, it’s going to be a process, but hopefully I can get back to regular life here soon."

Smith said he wants his story to bring people hope, showing them that people are recovering from COVID-19.
