KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 28-year-old Independence man was charged Tuesday with murder in connection with a deadly shooting one day earlier in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in south Kansas City, Missouri.

The Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Kenny T. Moore with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Rickey Arrington.

KCPD officers responding to a reported shooting found Arrington, a 35-year-old man who had been shot, shortly after 11 a.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot, according to court documents. He later died at a hospital.

An investigation revealed several damaged vehicles in the restaurant parking lot. The vehicle Arrington was found in had 12 bullet impacts in the driver’s side door, and several spent .40-caliber shell casings were located in the parking lot.

Within minutes of the shooting, police located a Jeep that fled the shooting scene. It was later found wrecked near East 87th Street and Prospect Avenue.

Witnesses said two armed men fled the vehicle and ran toward a construction site. The firearms, a .40-caliber Glock handgun and an AR pistol, were located in nearby woods, according to court documents.

An individual wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, ripped jeans and red and white shoes was seen on surveillance video at the McDonald’s with a gun in hand, shooting at Arrington’s vehicle.

Police later found and arrested Moore at the construction site wearing a gray shirt, ripped jeans and red and white shoes, according to the KCPD probable cause statement.
