KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three Kansas City men were charged Thursday afternoon following a police chase that resulted in a deadly crash on Monday night according to the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri.

Derrell M. Wade, 19, Curtis R. Daniels, 18 and Michael A. Brown, 18, were all charged with two counts of carjacking.

According to court documents, Wade pointed a hand gun at the victim while two other suspects took his phone and struck him in the back of the head several times.

The three suspects then fled the scene in the victim's car and that's when the victim used his wife's phone to call authorities and track his cell phone using the "Find My Phone" app.

Later that evening police located the stolen vehicle near East 23rd Street and Lister Avenue and pulled up behind the vehicle.

Wade was allegedly driving the vehicle and began to speed away from officers, reaching up to 75 mph and running several stop signs.

On East 23rd Street at Lawn Avenue, Wade ran another stop sign and crashed into another car, the occupant of which died.

Police identified that victim as Ricky Donaldson, 52, of Kansas City.

Wade and Brown both tried to run away after the crash but were arrested by police. Daniels remained in the vehicle and was arrested without incident, according to a news release.

The three arrests were made under Operation LeGend.
