Police are investigating four robberies that happened within blocks from one another early Wednesday morning.

"We believe this is a new group," Sgt. Kari Thompson, a KCPD spokeswoman, said.

All of the muggings happened within a two-hour period.

The first happened near 43rd and J.C. Nichols Parkway shortly after midnight. Police did take in one person for questioning.

On Thursday, prosecutors charged Ezkiel Reed-Williams for attempted street robbery, officials said.

The thieves held up two people near Tomfooleries at 47th and Jefferson within a matter of minutes, then targeted someone over at 45th and Main.

"They don't care, they are brazen, they are bold and with that we want everyone to be aware that," Thompson said.

The thieves' M.O. is very similar to that of Derrick Sims, who prosecutors say committed four armed robberies last month along with accomplices, just a few blocks away from the overnight robberies.

We spoke with one of his alleged victims who didn't want to be identified.

"When he saw me he rushed me, said, 'Don't look at my face, don't look at my face,'" the victim said. "When he was hitting me with his gun on my face, the gun just discharged."
He wasn't wounded by the gunfire and the suspect didn't take off with much.

"He took my wallet and cash I had on me which was maybe $7, it wasn't worth it, and my car keys," the victim said.

He believes these are crimes of opportunity. Law enforcement officials agree.

"If you will find that situation, think safety, if they ask you for something, unfortunately in these instances if you feel like your safety is at risk, you must do what they say," Thompson said.

If you live or work in area and noticed anything suspicious overnight, call police or the TIPS Hotline 816-474-TIPS (8477).
