KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man who shot and killed a Chinese missionary and injured two others in August 2018 was convicted Monday on multiple felony charges, prosecutors said.

A Jackson County jury found Curtrail Hudson, 20, guilty of second-degree murder, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of armed criminal action, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release.

On Aug. 1, 2018, police responded to a shooting in the 3600 block of Bridge Manor Drive, where Xingdong Hao, 38, was found dead, with several shotgun shell casings around him.

Additional shell casings were found a few blocks away in the 11200 block of Bales Avenue. Officers learned that a man had been taken to the hospital after he said he was shot in that area.

A third shooting victim drove to a nearby church and called 911, saying he had been shot while driving in the 3300 block of Bridge Manor Drive.

The surviving shooting victims both identified Hudson as the shooter, as well as a witness who said he saw Hudson pointing a shotgun at Hao and then hitting him multiple times with it.

Family members of Hudson told police they received a phone call from him after the shooting, and when they went to pick him up, he began “freaking out” and became "assaultive," according to court documents. Officers who took Hudson into custody had him transported to an area hospital because they believed he was high on PCP.

A shotgun later was located in the bottom of a storm drain at Bridge Manor Drive and Monroe Court. The shotgun had apparent blood and human tissue on the end of the barrel, according to records.

Hudson is set to be sentenced on April 24. The jury recommended up to 50 years in sentences for the convictions, according to the prosecutor’s office.
