BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Blue Springs police on Monday continued to look for a person of interest in a shooting that left one teenager dead and two others injured over the weekend.

Police have not released a description of the person because authorities know who the person is, Blue Springs police spokeswoman Jennifer Dachenhausen said.

Jayden Lockett, 17, died in the shooting, which occurred Saturday afternoon in the 1200 block of Southwest Sunset Street.

Lockett's mother told 41 Action News that her son was visiting the home where the shooting occurred but doesn't know why. She said Lockett was an honor roll student at Blue Springs South High School.

According to students at the school, the principal held a moment of silence for Lockett on Monday morning.

The school district declined to comment on Lockett's death.

Two other teenagers were injured in the shooting. A 15-year-old underwent his second surgery Monday and remains in the intensive care unit, according to his grandmother.

A 19-year-old who was shot in the elbow has been treated and released.

Lockett's friends are working to plan a vigil and balloon release to honor him. His family is planning funeral arrangements.
