West Plaza resident Jon Van Maren says in the past two years his car has been broken into three times.
“Glove box was open, middle console was open, things strewn about, most of my change was missing,” said Jon Van Maren.
Police say they have not seen an uptick in the amount of car break-ins. Part of the problem is that people have not been filing police reports. Van Maren did not file a report.
“Just cause it’s only been, you know, some change, in the past seems like every time it happens there are several other people that happen too, and maybe they are doing it,” said Jon Van Maren.
Mike Myers also had his car broken into. He too did not file a report.
“I think police probably have more things on their plate to worry about than somebody breaking into my car and spreading the change around the seat,” said Myers.
Police say no matter how minor the crime, you should always file a police report. Most car break-ins can be reported over the phone.
People can also request extra patrols by calling 816-234-5510.
