KCPD identifies city's 136th homicide in 2020 from shooting last week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 20-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a shooting Tuesday night in south Kansas City, Missouri.

KCPD officers responding to a separate call were flagged down by witnesses in a parking lot in the 11500 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday in regard to a shooting.

Multiple spent shell casings, a pistol and blood were found at the scene, where witnesses said an argument ended with gunfire.

During the investigation, it was determined that a shooting victim with multiple gunshot wounds showed up at a fire station in the 6000 block of East Red Bridge Road.

That person was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and died Thursday from injuries sustained in the shooting.

KCPD identified Christopher M. Mansaw, 20, on Tuesday as the victim of the 136th homicide recorded in KCMO so far in 2020, including three earlier Thursday.

A 36-year-old man, Shawndele Gray, was shot to death shortly after midnight Thursday on the East 75th Street on ramp to southbound U.S. 71.

Seven hours later, KCPD found a man and woman shot to death in a vehicle near East 25th Street and Jackson Avenue.

KCMO remains on a record pace for homicides. The city has surpassed the total number of homicides for all of 2016 (131) and is only two shy of the total number for all of 2018 (138).

According to KCPD data, the most homicides recorded in a calendar year was 153 in 1993. There were 151 homicides in 2017 and 150 last year.
