KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 19-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged with a deadly shooting Monday night in Raytown.

Aaron M. Hays was charged Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and delivery of a controlled substance in the shooting death of Lucas N. Jester in the 8400 block of Lane Drive.

According to a release from Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office, investigators described the shooting as a “drug deal gone bad.”

A witness placed Hays at the scene with Jester, who was found shot to death in a vehicle parked along the street, and video evidence confirmed he was a passenger in the vehicle, according to court records.

Hays allegedly fled on foot after the shooting. Prosecutors have requested he be held on a $150,000 bond.
