KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Travel experts from AAA predict holiday travel traffic will be the worst on Dec. 26.

The organization said afternoon drive times could be double the average in some major cities, like Chicago and Atlanta.

The travel organization also said traveling by plane will be difficult the day after Christmas. Ticket prices are most expensive that day, and the number of travelers could lead to long lines.

At Kansas City International Airport, staff expects nearly 30,000 passengers to go through the airport Thursday.

Luckily, there were very few delays early in the morning.

Steve Lutz was flying back to Florida after spending Christmas with family in the Olathe and Gardner areas. He said when he travels during the holiday season, he tries to book an early flight and keeps a calm approach.

KCI suggests you arrive early, check your flight status before getting to the airport, double check TSA information and be aware how construction at the airport may impact your drive to the terminals.
