KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A donation drive aims to help women in Kansas City who have escaped domestic violence.

On Saturday, Giving Hope & Help hosted its seventh annual feminine hygiene product drive. The nonprofit collected items of dignity, including tampons, pads and underwear. The items will help women at local domestic violence shelters and also will benefit women and girls organizations, schools and homeless shelters.

“It is not a woman problem, it’s a global problem,” said Jessica McClellan, founder and president of Giving Hope & Help.

The theme of this year’s donation drive is “Real Men Support Women." Several men and men’s organizations attended to show support.

“People don’t think about it," McClellan said. "A lot of women don’t think about it. They’re like, 'Oh, OK’. Imagine yourself without this item of dignity when you need it."

Each shelter received a year-supply of feminine hygiene products. In all, more than 20 nonprofits benefited from today’s event.

If you are in a domestic violence situation, call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
