KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Friends of a Platte City, Missouri woman killed in a multi-vehicle crash Friday are in mourning.

Linda Henderson had been involved with the Girl Scouts for more than 50 years, most recently becoming a troop leader for her great-granddaughter's Brownie Troop.

She was known to many as the pioneer woman or walking stick lady.

"It's a devastating loss, we just want Linda's legacy to live on," said Gina Gavin, chief brand and marketing officer with Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri.

Henderson died from injuries sustained in a 47-vehicle pileup Friday on westbound Interstate 70 near Oak Grove, Missouri.

Henderson's husband, James, also suffered serious injuries in the wreck. He remains hospitalized in critical condition at Centerpoint Medical Center.

"Just like we do in Girl Scouts and we wrap our arms around the family. I hope this community does that. I know they have but will continue to do that," said Garvin.

The family has started a GoFundMe to help with medical bills and other things the family might need during this time.
