KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As Kansas City experienced one of the hottest Memorial Days, a thousand homes were forced to find alternative ways to cool down.

"I think it's about the same temperature in there as it is out here," said Kenneth Boatright, with sweat dripping down his forehead.

He and his neighbors had been without power for more than four hours.

According to KCP&L, a downed power line caused the outage Monday afternoon. It affected about 1,000 customers.

Crews do not know what caused the power line damage but have been working to restore the power.
