I have been interested in weather since I turned 5-years-old, likely earlier, but I just can’t remember back further than that.
When I was 15-years-old I received a Star Wars calendar as a gift and decided to start making entries and forecasting the weather in this first weather calendar.
I made month long weather forecasts way back then, and now I am making long range forecasts using the LRC.
1978 was quite an exciting year for a 15-year-old kid interested in weather.
It was a wild winter with so much rain, and yes this rain was in Southern California.
Los Angeles had over 30 inches of rain that winter, way above average.
On my January 19th entry I wrote, “A tornado in Van Nuys on Sepulveda. Clearing Friday. Clear for the weekend. High pressure!!!”.
The next day’s entry included my visit to Dr. Mulick. Yes, I had braces. What great memories.
The 1978 Star Wars calendar was the first of many. I saved all of them.
I stopped keeping weather calendars around 2009.
So, I have 31 years of weather calendars.
