KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Kansas, woman on Monday pleaded guilty in the theft of guns from a Cabela’s store in November 2018.

Brenda Tosh, 27, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of conspiring to steal guns from a federal licensed firearms dealer, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister’s office said in a news release.

Tosh said that she and 29-year-old Kyle Mendez crashed a car into the Cabela’s store in KCK and took long guns from the firearms section, according to the release. The stolen guns included two 12-gauge shotguns, a .22-caliber rifle, a .308-caliber rifle and a .223-caliber rifle.

Officers arrested Tosh before she could leave the store. Mendez fled and allegedly stole a car from a nearby dealership before he was later arrested.

Tosh is set to be sentenced on Sept. 30.

Mendez, also of KCK, is scheduled for a change of plea hearing on Aug. 19, according to the release. In addition to the conspiracy charge, he also faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and transporting a stolen car across state lines.
