KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church has always tried to give back.

"For the past 14 years, we have made a special effort to reach out to people and we are reaching out to people whom we feel that are hurting," said Pastor John Modest Miles.

Before members of the Baptist church and other churches opened their gifts, they headed out to serve those in downtown KC.

They made three different stops during the holiday, serving hundreds of people.

Groups brought in everything from food to clothes and toys for kids.

Gary Cobin was one of those who was in need of some extra help this Christmas. He was thankful for the gesture.

"It's been a blessing to have people out here to help when need be," said Cobin. "To be able to have loving people out here to care ,to be able to take care of that warm feeling and that emptiness that a person may have in life."

Pastor Miles said they try to give back all year long.

"We make a special effort to reach the needs of people. In other words, what we are really doing is putting legs on our Christianity," said Miles.

They want people to know on Christmas Day someone is there for them.

"Going out where they are to say we care if there is anything we can do to make a difference in your life we want to be there for you," said Miles.

This was their 14th year to serve.
